Looking to book a winter family photo session and need some help picking a location? Here are a few of my favorite spaces!
As an on-location photographer that specializes in natural light family photography, winter is often the slowest month of the year for my business. And while there is nothing quite as magical as the bright Autumn foilage or cherry blossom season, lifestyle family photo sessions are gaining popularity – even in the winter season! The winter trees are bare, allowing ample natural light to pour through the house, and as long as there are plenty of windows, there is no place I can’t photograph in.
There are so many creative ways to have a family portrait session during those cold winter months. Here are just some of my top favorites. Hopefully, they may inspire you for your next family or engagement photo session!
My favorite types of photo sessions in the winter season, lifestyle family photos at home are beyond special. Not only does this make each session especially unique and personalized to each family, but there is nothing quite as comforting as having a photo session in the comforts of your own home. Kids already feel at ease, safe and relaxed in their own space, so this is a particularly great option for families with young children. Baby milestone sessions and newborn sessions are also ideally photographed at home.
Museums provide plenty of wide-open space and natural light, which makes an indoor winter photo session a beautiful spot for an winter indoor photo session. Art museums typically have grand spaces with simple and classic decor making it a timeless place to document some memories. My favorite museums’ to photograph portraits are in Washington D.C., New York City, Boston and Paris.
Indoor botanical gardens and greenhouses are an excellent place for romantic engagement photos during the winter! If you enjoy plants, nature and plenty of clean natural light, it makes for a creative place for a new environment. Plus, if you’re looking to book a family photo session, the kids will just love exploring the gardens!
Traveling? Rent an Airbnb!
If you don’t want to have your photo session at home and would rather make a staycation out of your portrait experience, renting an Airbnb with several rooms is a fun idea for your annual family photo session! Just make sure that the Airbnb space provides plenty of windows and natural light before booking!
Are you looking for a family or at home lifestyle newborn photographer? Please inquire for session details and more information on booking. I look forward to documenting the love between you and your family!
