As an astrocartographer specializing in the field of relocation astrology, it’s always exciting to learn new techniques that are being explored and shared within the field: parans, relocated charts, planetary combos, local space lines, zenith points, and more.
Astrocartography is such a new technique in astrology, and while we have data in Hellenistic astrology that’s been cataloged and preserved since 1st century B.C., there’s something so thrilling about being on the leading edge, bringing a new subdivision of astrology to public awareness. Jim Lewis discovered astrocartography recently in the 1970s, and today there are new techniques being shared and passed on, such as relocated natal charts and local space lines.
I’m an active traveler – having lived and traveled on 7 different planetary lines – and it’s always fascinating to experience how the relocated natal chart shifts when we travel to new places. I’m here on the internet – blogging, filming, teaching and connecting one-on-one with clients – to bring this educational content to you, so that you can live intentionally and well by traveling to places that will bring you the most joy, ease and transformation in this energetic cycle of life.
Let’s get into some of my favorite paran lines and a technique you can use to see the themes of places around the world…

Paran Lines in Astrocartography – Using Solar Fire
Solar Fire is my current favorite software that I’m loving for astrocartography. It was everything you could ever need for astrocartography: parans, ACG lines, local space lines, and relocated charts. But here’s the mega downside to Solar Fire: you can only download it on Windows. I know, it sucks. So, if you’re a mac user like me, getting windows is a bummer. I had to invest in a Surface Pro 3 for my astrocartography work to be as accurate as possible (it was the cheapest, lightest thing that I can find to take with me on my international travels but it’s so worth it.) Prior to getting this, I had been using Astro Gold software for Mac, which is great and it’s my favorite astrology software for doing chart readings and zodiacal releasing, but it doesn’t show parans.
And paran lines in astrocartography are important.
I have found parans to be incredibly important in not only my own travels but also in so many of my client experiences. The impact can be dramatic.
Parans are places where two planets are angular together, for instance, Mars is on the MC while Jupiter is rising.
At some point on the earth, when you have two planetary lines crossing, at that point of crossing a paran is formed at a latitude.
And even if you don’t have a main astrocartography lines in your area, you’ll always have parans and local space lines.
Paran lines look like this:
Relocation Astrology: Check Your Relocated Natal Chart
Relocation astrology is a great add-on to studying your astrocartography map. If you’d like to get more precise information and details on the different areas of your life (career, children, love, dating, marriage, spiritual growth, finances, etc), you can relocate your natal chart to the place you want to travel to and see how the houses shift. The planets stay in the same signs, but houses will change along with some of the aspects to the different angles (AS/DS/MC/IC).
In this relocation chart example below, I’ve pulled up my relocated natal chart for where I was born in California. You can see in the first example, my moon is on the MC, great for being seen and visible in my career, as a performer, actress and service work. If I traveled to Sydney Australia (my natal sun moves up to the MC – great for career growth and being publicly seen and visible as a leader). The third example is my relocated natal chart in Strasbourg France where Venus is on my IC, making my private home life and community involvement very enjoyable and pleasant (which it was! Strasbourg France was one of my favorite places I’ve ever lived).
Looking at the relocation chart is something I now offer in my private astrocartography readings, in addition to looking at the astrocartography map itself.
