As a Hellenistic astrologer, there are a few different Hellenistic time-lord techniques that I use. Annual profections being the main one I first look at when looking at a person’s chart. But zodiacal releasing is perhaps the most interesting and my absolute favorite one to use. After studying over a hundred ZR periods and seeing how accurate this technique is, both of public figures and in my zodiacal releasing client readings, I am so excited to share what I’ve learned with you about this ancient timing technique!
So, essentially, ZR is an ancient timing technique that times the precise chapters of a person’s life. It’s an advanced technique and it can be used to time a person’s career and life direction, as well as their bodily health and relationships. Some periods have heightened importance and others are quieter. Some periods are positive and others are more unpreferable. And zodiacal releasing can show you when!
I’m most fascinated by two things in life: time and travel. Storytelling in all forms – understanding a person’s life story – is my greatest passion, and what’s neat about this timing technique is that it divides a person’s life into chapters as if your life were a biography. And you can read it!
By reading your ZR periods, you can see how your life is broken up into chunks, for example, you have sections of your story (L1) which can be decades-long, chapters (L2) which can be around a year to three years, paragraphs (L3) which are months-long and then as short as sentences (L4) which are days.
I first learned about zodiacal releasing last summer through Chris Brennan’s youtube videos on the subject and then took his online course in the Fall, which I highly recommend to any traditional astrologers or astrology-enthusiasts out there, as well as his book Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune.
Alright, let’s get back to learning how to read and understand your own ZR periods!
You can read your ZR periods for free on Astro.com! Personally, I love using Astro Gold software for looking at transits, synastry as well as annual profections and zodiacal releasing periods, but to find your for free, you can do the following:
Look to what sign your lot of fortune is in. In your natal chart, it will appear as a circle with a crossing through it. On Astro.com, you will need to select < Additional objects < Pars Fortunae” in order to see the lot of fortune in your chart. You can also see it in your Zodiacal releasing chart by looking at the sign next to the words “Lot of Fortune” in your ZR chart.
Your lot of fortune is a major peak period for you. Next, note whether your lot of fortune is mutable, cardinal or fixed?
Whichever modality your LOF is in indicates that the other three signs within that same modality will also be peak periods. Time periods that contain the lot of fortune and the other three signs (whether those be mutable, cardinal or fixed) will be your life’s peak periods or times of heightened importance and activity.
The four mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. The cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. The fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.
There are two major peak periods, 1 moderate peak period, and 1 minor peak period. I share more about how to differentiate these periods in this video here!
Peak periods are times of heightened importance. They are defining moments in one’s life and they are very busy and active times. They are neither positive nor negative, just important (unless it corresponds with your most positive/challenging time periods).
Tip: Always look at the sign from the lot of fortune and then apply it to the spirit and eros chart. For example, if your LOF is Aquarius, then that means your peak periods are also going to be Aquarius and the other fixed signs in your career (lot of spirit) and relationships (lot of eros) as well.
Positive periods are easy, favorable, and preferable times, whereas challenging periods are more difficult and unfavorable. Sometimes these periods align with a “peak period” and other times they don’t.
Your most positive and negative planet is determined by the sect of your chart. If you have a day chart, or the sun is in the top half of your natal chart, your most positive planet is Jupiter and your most negative is Mars. If you have a night chart, or the sun is in the bottom half of your chart, your most positive planet is Venus and your most negative planet is Saturn.
The sign that contains your most positive benefic (Jupiter for day charts, Venus for night charts) indicates a positive period. This goes the same for more challenging times: look to the sign that houses your natal Mars if you have a day chart, Saturn in you have a night chart.
For example. for me, my peak periods are fixed signs, and my more positive times are fixed (as I have my natal Jupiter in Scorpio as a day chart person) and my more challenging periods in life are cardinal signs, because my natal Mars is in Aries (I have a day chart so Mars is more difficult for me).
There are a few other things that indicate if a time is challenging or positive, like for example, the nature of the natal planets placed in those signs. Challenging times can also be indicated by the nature of any natal planets in those signs that are aspected by a square or opposition.
If you need any help looking at your ZR periods, I’d be happy to go in-depth with you and provide more grounded guidance on your past, present and upcoming time periods in the Lot of Spirit and the Lot of Eros. You can learn more about my private online consultations here!
One of the most interesting aspects of Zodiacal Releasing is seeing when major changes or “upleveling” happens in a person’s life. In my free time, I’m particularly fond of looking at celebrities, authors and politicians ZR periods, and it’s always amazing to see how an actor or public figure’s life dramatically changes during a level 2 (L2) loosening of the bond in the Lot of Spirit. An LB can also indicate other things, specifically massive changes or a pivot in a person’s life, whether good or bad.
An LB indicates a major life transition. It can show a departure or letting go of some kind like a breakup in relationship or quitting/transitioning away from a profession, but it can also indicate a leveling up, for example, a work promotion in the Lot of Spirit, or getting married in the Lot of Eros.
An LB can also indicate themes or an event that will be foreshadowed.
For example, if you have a L2 loosening of the bond, you can look to the LB’s sign and then look back in time to see when the last year was that contained that same sign. You may get an idea for a career or meet someone at the sign previously, but then will be actively implementing it at the Loosening of the Bond.
A very important tidbit to know when looking at your ZR periods. Here are what the three main lots mean.
Health and body matters. Also, the life circumstances that befall the person through no fault of their own and are completely outside of one’s control.
Mind and intellect. The lot of spirit indicates that which the native actively brings into their life. This can indicate choices, that of which is of one’s personal volition as well as career and life direction. This is the lot to look at for career matters.
Quite simply: relationship matters and love!
I love studying the chapters and places of a person’s destiny. And I’m far more fascinated by other people’s charts than my own. That’s why I love giving client readings. I’ve been passionately studying astrology for over 12 years but I uniquely specialize in astrogeography (or travel and relocation astrology) and zodiacal releasing as travel and time / life chapter are my favorite topics to explore in a person’s life biography. As a storyteller and seeker, I feel most at home uncovering the truth within a chart. And I’m so thrilled to be sharing what I’ve learned with you.
If you’d like to book a personalized one-on-one reading with me, where we go deeper on the map of your soul’s blueprint and look at the detailed themes that will emerge at specific times in the future, whether that be in the lot of spirit or lot of eros, you can learn more details and book an zodiacal releasing reading with me here.
