Why Lunar Nodes Are So Important To Pay Attention To On Your Astrocartography Map
Today we’re chatting about the lunar nodes in astrology and astrocartography — what you can expect when you visit lunar node astrocartography lines on your map and when might these karmic stories be activated in your cosmic biography?
What Are the Lunar Nodes in Astrology?
Luar Nodes are not planets or physical bodies.
They’re two opposing points in the zodiac where the Moon crosses the Ecliptic (the imaginary orbit of the Sun moving north and south of the sun’s path.)
The North Node is known as the dragon’s head (Rahu) and the South Node is the dragon’s tail (Ketu).
We all have these points in our birth chart. The nodes look like horseshoe icons in your birth chart or your relocated chart — one’s facing north and one’s facing south.
Also note that the nodal points are always exactly opposite each other in your birth chart.

What is the North Node in Astrocartography and Astrology
The North Node is your focal point. Think of it as volume up.
The North Node in ancient astrology (not modern astrology) is our obsession, or the direction you’re focused on. It’s an insatiable desire or energy you can’t get enough of. It’s also the thing you’re really passionate about in specific areas of life. It symbolizes opportunity, doors opening or some sort of karmic energy coming into your life.
It’s not necessarily good or bad, but it is an obsession — something you can’t stop chewing on or something you can’t get enough of. And no matter how much you go toward it, you’ll never be satisfied.
(When I reference an “area of life” I’m talking about the 12 houses, or the different sectors of your birth chart like family, friends, money, career, spirituality, etc!)
You can also check where the Lunar Nodes move to in your relocated chart in a new location.
What is the South Node in Astrocartography and Astrology
On the flip side, we have the South Node — the South Node represents something you’re walking away from. It’s volume down, what you’re letting go of, or what you’re leaving behind. This point can show where you’re apathetic or careless concerning a specific area of life. However, the South Node does bring a level of comfort and familiarity like a past connection, or something that feels familiar, like you’ve done it before but you don’t really care about it much because you’re moving in a new direction.
For example, if you have your North Node in the 1st house and your South Node in the 7th house, you may not be as focused on marriage, relationships, or relying on a partner but rather obsessed with independence and doing your own thing.
Remember, this doesn’t mean you won’t get married or have relationships in your life, it’s just not your overarching theme. You’d be more self-reliant, independent, and reliant on yourself for happiness.

Lunar Nodes Always Activate Something Important or Karmic.
So when you have these Lunar Node astrocartography lines throughout the world, they signify places of importance.
I’m sharing this as I’m here in Dubai on a Lunar Node line — my North Node’s on the Descendant (DC angle) and my South Node’s on the Ascendant (AC angle).
It’s really interesting being here because my story feels so flipped in my birth chart…
I normally have the North Node in my 1st house of independence, and the South Node in the 7th house of marriage and relationships. But in my relocated chart in the UAE, the nodal axis is flipped so I have the South Node ruling my sense of independence and I’m much more focused on my partner. It’s here that I’m obsessed with my partner to a level of I can’t even comprehend.
I think about my husband 24/7. I’m always on the phone with him. I Zoom call him multiple times a day.
And no matter how happy I am here, or how many amazing projects I’m working on, I just want to be with him and I don’t really want to be by myself. It’s wild!
Here’s the chart for Dubai so you can see that 1st / 7th house….
What Can You Expect When Visiting Lunar Nodes Crossing the Four Angles?
There are four angles in astrology — Ascendant, Descent, Midheaven, and Imum Coeli.
North Node on your Ascendant (AC) :
You’re focused on your individuality, sense of autonomy, and the actions you take for yourself. It’s both your physical body and your identity in life. It’s coming home to yourself.
When the North Node is on the Descendant angle (DC) :
Other people and relationships, there’s a thirst for connection with other people. It’s likely something karmic will unfold here in regard to relationships and social contacts.
The MC angle’s the top of your chart — the most visible part of the chart — ruling your career, public vocation, networking, social status, and what you contribute to the collective. Work and career opportunities surface when the North Node’s on the MC angle.
Lastly, the IC angle represents home, family, roots ancestry, and lineage.
(Something cool to look at is where you have the Nodes on the IC angle since it represents roots, family, the mother, and what came before. I often see people have past-life connections when the Lunar Nodes are on the IC point. If you’re searching for a place of family, home, and building foundations, Lunar Nodes can feel lovely on the IC!)
Remember the North Node = volume up ↑ and the South Node = volume down ↓
Going to a North Node can be more “positive” because there’s a sense of opportunity, doors opening or something significant unfolding for you. It doesn’t mean it’s good or bad — simply more preferable or un-preferable.
Now, you should know that timing’s really important when we talk about travel and relocation.
Visiting Lunar Node astrocartography lines at the right time can expedite or accelerate these themes.
The nodes are always moving together and move by precession (or backward) and they always go in the opposite direction than the rest of the planets. The planets always move forward in procession which is counterclockwise, the Lunar Nodes always move clockwise.
Using Your Astrocartography Map During a Nodal Return
Look at timing to see when those Nodes have a “nodal return”, as we call it in astrology.
Also consider nodal cycles, or when the Lunar Nodes come back to the position they were in when you were born.
The nodal return is like the Universe re-aligning us with our path, or what we came here to do in this life. This happens roughly every 19 years — so when you turn 19 years old you’ll hit a nodal return. You’ll hit it again when you turn 37, and once more when you’re about 55 ½.
So often people get divorced when they’re 37 or 55, or there’s some sort of ending, or walking away from something to head towards their North Node path.
Nodal Reversals – Timing Your Travels using Astrocartography
Nodal cycles are periods of time focused on the opposite direction of what we came here to do in life. It’s almost like we press pause on what we came here to achieve and head to the opposite side of the spectrum.
Nodal reversals happen when we’re 28, right before we experience our Saturn Return, or the initiation into newfound maturity, growth, and responsibility in life. You’ll experience Saturn Return again when you’re 46 and 65.
Nodal reversals are also very crucial times in life when you’re letting go, getting closure, releasing, and putting an end to anything that’s not working for you anymore. That might be quitting your job and retiring, or letting go of abusive people in your life who no longer serve you.
Nodal reversals call for pressing pause to get clarity so you can move forward and start building up to that Nodal Return.
I recommend following your Nodal Transits when you’re in a Nodal Return or a Nodal Reversal if you’re planning to go to a Lunar Node astrocartography line.
Lunar Nodes and Eclipse Season
I wouldn’t recommend visiting a Lunar Node line when you’re moving through an Eclipse.
Eclipse Season isn’t usually a great time to start anything new or make big life changes. You’ll already be going through changes during Eclipse season because Eclipse’s are accelerations of fate. They bring radical changes, new beginnings, and endings for six months. But always trust your inner voice, first.
I recently had a client who had a beautiful Jupiter MC line going through Stockholm in Sweden, with the North Node on the MC. Jupiter was transiting right over that Jupiter angle on the MC when she visited resulting in an amazing opportunity in her career. Her career was flourishing here — she got a big grant and was featured in a museum.
The extent to which astrocartography and timing influence us is insane.
There are beautiful, karmic opportunities waiting for you on your Lunar Node lines and I hope you get the chance to experience them for yourself, kindred spirit.
