The Sun in astrology represents our ego, vitality, aspirations, goals, motivations in life, and who we aspire to be.
The sun represents our will and also our willpower.
Before we dive into the energetic themes of Sun lines, remember, to feel this solar energy you need to be in its orb of influence — 600 miles for planetary lines, and 70 miles for parans. Always measure the distance between your location and your Sun lines.
Remember that even if you’re 200 miles away, you’ll still within orb!
Sun lines are egoic, representing the ego of our spirit, opposite of the more intuitive emotional moon. Light-filled Sun lines are wonderful because they help with self-actualization, self-motivation, and clarity about who we are.
Think of Leo — the bright, enduring light. It’s a fixed fire sign, like a fireplace that consistently burns. It’s a bit different than Sagittarius, which is like a wildfire spread over many acres, or Aries that’s similar to a spark or firework.
I think of a heart-led person who just gives, gives, gives. They relish being seen, expressing themselves in how they dress, and sharing their childlike enthusiasm for self-expression and fun with the world!
First, check your Sun placement in your birth chart. No one has the same birth chart, we all have unique cosmic maps so be sure to check what zodiac sign rules your Sun!
This gives us more color and flavor about how you uniquely tap into self-actualization, aspirations, motivations, and willpower. Then check the natal aspects and configurations you have with other planets.
Let’s talk a bit deeper about the pros and cons of Sun Astrocartography lines (plus, what you can expect with the Sun on the four angles.)
If the pros of Sun lines are receiving clarity, lots of energy, and a new-found sense of willpower, naturally the cons are a more “extreme” version of this.
The cons of Sun astrocartography lines?
Arrogance, overconfidence, or a heightened sense of the ego rearing its head.
Leadership is another big keyword I associate with the Sun, but the con of leadership can be too abrasive, prideful, hubris, or thinking very highly of yourself. The Sun can get too bright or too hot. Just something to be aware of when you’re on a Sun line.
I have a Sun Local Space line slicing through Bali, as well as a Sun Moon paran. Every time I’ve been to Bali I had an “AHA!” moment in my life and a realization about what I want to do in my life. The first time I was there in 2017 I decided to be a blogger. I wanted to be visible online and share my life lessons and experiments. During this huge epiphany, I met so many bloggers, photographers, and creative types who were so charitable and giving. I was truly inspired.
My second trip to Bali was last Summer. It was a Venus retrograde in Leo — I have Leo the 10th house of career, so I was confronted with yet another giant reconfiguration about where I’m going with my life. I was stepping away from my successful YouTube channel because I realized that wasn’t my future.
Long story short, when I was in Bali I felt so damn good but was a little overconfident.
You have four astrophotography lines — when the Sun was angular on four different points in your relocated chart — Sun Ascendant (AS), Sun Descendant (DC), Sun Midheaven (MC), Sun Imum Coeli (IC).
It’s who you are, the actions you take, and the solar energy you radiate. It’s a great location for leadership, health, and vitality (unless you’ve got some difficult parans or relocated chart.) It can err on the side of overconfidence or arrogance.
It’s the opposite of the Ascendant, ruling relationships, partnerships, interactions, and what you’re subconsciously manifesting in your relationships or interactions with other people. It’s the story of people in your life.
Expect this location to be social, energizing, outgoing — not introverted (depending on your natal Sun.) You may meet your partner here, especially if it’s relocated to the 7th house!
It’s all about promotions, achievement, being seen and visibility in your career, public recognition, social status, and vocation. Want to shine as a leader, teacher, guide, performer, or actor? Visit your Sun MC line.
You can expect more growth in terms of visibility, achievement, and recognition for your work. It’s phenomenal if you want to be on a radio show, start a podcast, or a YouTube channel.
The Sun IC brings light-filled energy into the home, family, and domestic life.
If it’s in the 3rd house you can think local community, siblings, and connections. If it’s in the 4th house think of the family unit, being a parent, and retirement.
Be sure to look at your relocated chart to see which house this unfolds in for you specifically. The more context and information you have about that area of life — the better!
