As a Connecticut lifestyle newborn photographer and after having spent the last 4 years handling newborns – both on-location as a hospital and at-home, I’ve learned when the best, most ideal time for scheduling newborn portraits.
When to Schedule Your Newborn to be Photographed
Timing is critical when it comes to scheduling your newborn photos. Don’t wait too long to schedule your session. 5-8 days after birth is ideal.
This is the time when your little one is very sleepy and still has that curled up, precious newborn look.
When to Book and Schedule with a Newborn Photographer?
I recommend that you schedule your newborn session at least 2 weeks before the due day to ensure availability with me. Since there is no way to predict exactly when baby will arrive or how mom/baby will be feeling and adjusting, I simply note your due date in my calendar and schedule the exact date and time once you get settled in at home.
After 2 weeks, newborns tend to sleep less frequently, less deeply, are more finicky and much harder to pose.
We need baby to be sleeping for lifestyle family portraits with mom, dad and siblings.
