As a Hellenistic astrologer, there are a few different Hellenistic time-lord techniques that I use. Annual profections being the main one I first look at when looking at a person’s chart. But zodiacal releasing is perhaps the most interesting and my absolute favorite one to use. After studying over a hundred ZR periods and seeing how accurate this technique is, both of public figures and in my zodiacal releasing client readings, I am so excited to share what I’ve learned with you about this ancient timing technique!

What is Zodiacal Releasing?

So, essentially, ZR is an ancient timing technique that times the precise chapters of a person’s life. It’s an advanced technique and it can be used to time a person’s career and life direction, as well as their bodily health and relationships. Some periods have heightened importance and others are quieter. Some periods are positive and others are more unpreferable. And zodiacal releasing can show you when!

I’m most fascinated by two things in life: time and travel. Storytelling in all forms – understanding a person’s life story – is my greatest passion, and what’s neat about this timing technique is that it divides a person’s life into chapters as if your life were a biography. And you can read it!

By reading your ZR periods, you can see how your life is broken up into chunks, for example, you have sections of your story (L1) which can be decades-long, chapters (L2) which can be around a year to three years, paragraphs (L3) which are months-long and then as short as sentences (L4) which are days.

I first learned about zodiacal releasing through Chris Brennan’s youtube videos on the subject and then took his online course a year ago, which I highly recommend to any traditional astrologers or astrology-enthusiasts out there, as well as his book Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune.

Tips for Understanding Your Own Zodiacal Releasing Periods

How to Find Your Zodiacal Releasing Periods

You can read your ZR periods for free on Astro.com! Personally, I love using Astro Gold software for looking at transits, synastry as well as annual profections and zodiacal releasing periods, but to find your for free, you can do the following:

1. Go to Astro.com
2. Login to “My Astro” and click on your “User Profile”
3. Enter in your correct birth details and make sure you have the accurate time of birth
4. Click on Extended Chart Selection
5. In the drop-down menu titled < Chart Drawing Style < Hellenistic
6. Click < House System: whole signs (for my fellow traditional Hellenistic astrologers)
7. < Click here to show the chart
8. Finally, scroll down to the bottom of the page, below the natal chart drawing, where you’ll find a bunch of dates in 4 Level categories. These are you zodiacal releasing periods.

First, note your Lot of Fortune

Look to what sign your lot of fortune is in. In your natal chart, it will appear as a circle with a crossing through it. On Astro.com, you will need to select < Additional objects < Pars Fortunae” in order to see the lot of fortune in your chart. You can also see it in your Zodiacal releasing chart by looking at the sign next to the words “Lot of Fortune” in your ZR chart.

Note the Modality of Your Lot of Fortune

Your lot of fortune is a major peak period for you. Next, note whether your lot of fortune is mutable, cardinal or fixed?

Note your Peak Periods

Whichever modality your LOF is in indicates that the other three signs within that same modality will also be peak periods. Time periods that contain the lot of fortune and the other three signs (whether those be mutable, cardinal or fixed) will be your life’s peak periods or times of heightened importance and activity.

The four mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces. The cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. The fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius.

There are two major peak periods, 1 moderate peak period, and 1 minor peak period. I share more about how to differentiate these periods in this video here!

Peak Periods in Zodiacal Releasing

Peak periods are times of heightened importance. They are defining moments in one’s life and they are very busy and active times. They are neither positive nor negative, just important (unless it corresponds with your most positive/challenging time periods).

The Lots in Zodiacal Releasing

A very important tidbit to know when looking at your ZR periods. Here are what the three main lots mean.

Lot of Fortune

Health and body matters.  Also, the life circumstances that befall the person through no fault of their own and are completely outside of one’s control.

Lot of Spirit

Mind and intellect. The lot of spirit indicates that which the native actively brings into their life. This can indicate choices, that of which is of one’s personal volition as well as career and life direction. This is the lot to look at for career matters.

Lot of Eros

Quite simply: relationship matters and love!
