The Little-Known Niche of Astrology — Geodetic Astrology
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Chief Astrologer, Julija Simas, to chat all things Geodetic Astrology on the Cosmic Compass podcast!
This episode was sooo value-packed, I had to turn it into a blog post on…
Geodetic Mapping for beginners
If you’re fascinated by mundane astrology (a niche of astrology focused on predicting world events), you’ll absolutely adore today’s blog topic.
Let’s cover how geodetic maps work (hint hint: it’s really simple and straightforward!), how you can use geodetic maps in your personal life if you’re planning a move, how geodetic maps work alongside transits, plus what to look out for when making world predictions using mundane astrology.
First things first…
What’s Geodetic Astrology?
Just like Astrocartography, Geodetic Astrology is an astrology chart overlayed on the world map.
Except here’s where it differs from individualized maps…
Geodetic Astrology divides the world map into twelve fixed sections and assigns a zodiac sign to each.
Why do we use Geodetic Astrology?
Mundane astrology. In other words, we use it to predict world events.
The Geodetic map is a fixed map of the world that’s eerily accurate and significant when predicting major world happenings and themes.
Every place on the planet has a geodetic coordinate associated with a zodiac sign at a specific degree. And it’s super simple to figure out.
In fact, I think this is one of the easiest and simplest ways to read astro maps!
Here’s how it works…
You begin at Greenwich, at the zero meridian point, then segment the geodetic map at 30° intervals around the globe, which eventually wraps back around to the starting point.
This is called zodiacal longitude (0°-360°) — and it’s 12 segments of all the 12 zodiac signs going East of Greenwich.
For example, Aries starts at 0° in Greenwich.
London, England, has coordinates of 28° Pisces.
Or another example — Israel’s 5° Taurus on the geodetic map, which is 35° East of the zero meridian point, Istanbul is 0° Taurus, Capricorn begins at 270°, and so on.
(P.S. If this sounds complicated, I recommend watching this YouTube video for a visual representation of a geodetic map as you read along.)
We use Geodetic Maps when looking at world affairs
However you can also look to your own Geodetic Map.
Here are the steps:
First pull up your birth chart and note where are your planets at the degrees in those zodiac signs?
Next place them on the Geodetic map, and you can find the coordinates of hot spots for you.
If you don’t have your birth time, that’s okay!
As long as you have your birthdate, you can find where the main planets are on the map, because again – you just need the planet, the zodiac sign and the degree that it’s positioned at.
The only one that will be harder to spot is the moon, as it moves so quickly and if you don’t have an accurate birthtime, you won’t find the exact degree of where your natal moon is placed.
Aside from the moon however, you’ll be able to see where all the planets are on the world.
Geodetic Maps Are Very Symbolic
How might the zodiac archetypes express themselves in a specific location on a geodetic map?
The zodiac signs on the map color the flavor of an area, as well as specific cities in the world!
Take the Capricorn zone — specifically, Washington, DC coordinates at 13° Capricorn MC — on the East Coast of the US, for example. Capricorn represents discipline, structure, goals, legacy, hard work, and ambition.
For instance, it makes sense that our governmental structures and origins exist within the Capricorn segment of the geodetic map. It’s where our public leaders gather to work and/or discuss the longevity of our country and our future generations.
Even the geodetic places in the world that house the fire sign meridians — Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius — are notoriously the most fire-prone zones in the world. Think Southern California, Brazilian rainforests, and Australia.
Follow the water sign meridians, and we consistently see big hurricanes along the coastlines.
But having said that, the meridian in Greenwich was only recently chosen in 1884…
Thousands of years ago, in Ptolemies times, astrologers used Jerusalem as the zero degree point. If you look at that coordinate at five degrees of Taurus, using the much older zero point meridian, you see the geodetic line where a huge earthquake (remember, Taurus is an Earth sign) happened in Turkey a few years ago.
That same line goes through Moscow, East of Ukraine, and Syria, proving that the meridian is still very much alive.
Making World Predictions Using Astrocartography Maps
As a locational astrologer, it’s been really hard for me to make predictions solely using astrocartography maps.
One thing I’ve found within my research is the accuracy of world leaders’ astrocartography maps, like President Donald Trump, who has his Mars Ascendant line slicing right through Washington, DC.
Jim Lewis, the Father of Astrocartography, did lots of research on predictive astrology using prominent leaders’ astrocartography maps, too. He found repeating themes between world leaders’ Mars, Pluto, and Neptune planetary lines, and their relationships to other countries’ leaders.
Essentially, astrocartography alone is less predictive in nature, whereas Geodetic Astrology is very significant if we want to predict events on a global scale.
During our conversation, I asked Julija from the Cosmic* Intelligence* Agency how she uses geodetic maps alongside astrocartography, transits, and progressions to help people relocate to their best place.
PLUS, can a difficult geodetic line be a deal breaker if a client has a great relocated chart and local space lines?
Here’s what she had to say:
“I do all the maps together, ACG, Geodetic, and Local Space. I’m more convinced if I see things overlapping, instead of relying on one line showing me something. When I do any mundane astrology, I don’t just rely on the birth chart.
I make clients aware of something ‘difficult’ and just add it to the story. I wouldn’t make a deterrent, because again, we have to think about the geodetic maps as very symbolic. Geodetic maps are just incredibly accurate. There’s something about the magic of a collective force that binds us all, so to speak.”
Think of the geodetic lines as an undercurrent – not the primary importance like the astrocartography lines, but still helpful to get more information about the energies of a place!

Look into your Geodetic Map, along with your Astrocartography!
If Geodetic maps sparked some intrigue in you, I suggest exploring your coordinates.
Find where in the world your Sun’s Rising and Setting. Plus, pinpoint your Ascendant and Descendant — you might be surprised what you find.
Maybe you fell in love with someone on one of your coordinates, or have family members living on a line!
The deeper you dive into astrology, the more you realize we’re living our astrology, here and now. It’s already “happening” and that’s so beautiful.
