My first-ever beach session! Almost three years in business as a family and children’s photographer, and I can’t believe I had my first beach session now – in Portugal! My shoot with the A. family was a dream. Not only was the light perfect and the landscape gorgeous, but T. and her family were so easy and fun to work with. I love working with families that let me lead and get creative. While we got plenty of traditional look-at-the-camera family shots, it was the candid ones that I truly fell in love with. T’s adorable four year old daughter running and playing around her family, the twirls and dance moves, the spontaneous giggles and sea-shell spotting. The tight embraces and soft smiles. I couldn’t get enough of this stunning gallery!

The Shoot

I met T’s family through a referral from a couple I photographed in Portugal, and from the moment we met, we instantly connected! T’s daughter “D” was a firecracker of energy, love and joy! And gosh, how fun is hanging out with a four year old! Four has always been my very favorite age. Their imaginations are vivid, their pure honesty refreshing, and their belief in anything and everything is inspiring.

Four year olds are great to photograph because story-telling is a particular favorite among this age, and with my love for storytelling and telling jokes during my sessions, I am able to get the most vibrant smiles and laughs. Four year olds are also super easy to bribe to get those 30 minutes of session time focus. I often tell my families to offer a special treat to their kids for a job-well done. there is nothing like an ice-cream cone to get the kids attention! But nonetheless, I didn’t need to remind “D” about any special treats – she was perfectly joyful and focused the entire 60 minute session! Their 2 week old newborn “A” was so sleepy and sweet, and we got some precious mom+baby / family moments all cuddled together. And we played!

Photographing at Quinta do Lago in Portugal

We scheduled our session at the beach, Quinta do Lago on the outskirts of Faro, Portugal. This beach was stunning with it’s natural rugged cliffs, clean and silky sand and stunning views down the coast. There are tons of excellent restaurants on the beach, and I treated myself to the most delicious Caprese salad before my session. The beach was empty, despite the warm temperature, and we all had plenty of room to dance and play! For my first beach session, I am so unbelievably happy with the experience and the results.

Thank you A. family for an incredible time! You were an absolute JOY to photograph!
