What a joy it was to photograph the W. Family and their darling newborn son in New York City Manhattan. (I mean, really, how adorable is that face?) On Saturday morning, I hurled my newborn beanbag, knit blankets and photography equipment in a yellow cab and sped off to the Upper East Side of NYC to meet these sweet new parents. This new momma and her husband were both so laid-back, easy going and kind and while my lifestyle newborn sessions are often 1.5-2 hours, this at-home newborn session flew by, and we were finished in a little over an hour!
He slept like a champ after we captured a few wide-awake lifestyle newborn portraits, and we finished the session with plenty of lifestyle family photos of the whole family together in their apartment.
Chanel’s lovely mother was also there, and I loved capturing these classic, vintage black and white portraits of her and mother and her newborn son – three generations in a single photograph. It is these documenting these mother-daughter moments that make my job so special, for it is all so new, so emotional and such a glorious once-in-a-lifetime moment. Documenting these moments of a mother watching her daughter have her first child is such an important and special part of a family’s legacy, and I was smiling – and casually holding back the first signs of tears – behind my camera lens as I witnessed these moments.
I love at-home lifestyle newborn portraiture, especially photographing newborns and families in black and white for that more classic feel. Thanks to the beautiful and lovely W. family for being such dream clients!
