If you’ve been wanting to look at your astrocartography map and get ALL the details (because if you’ve been following all my videos, you know that the free website Astro.com doesn’t have nearly enough of the precision or features to rely on in order to make a big move), Astro Gold has just upleveled!

And as a professional astrologer and astrocartographer, I’m going to be sharing with you all the pros and cons of this astrocartography software. As a Mac girly myself, I am very pleased with these much-needed updates and am excited to share them with you!

Best Features of Astro Gold

Relocation Chart Feature

Okay let’s start with perhaps the COOLEST new astrocartography mapping features added to Astro Gold.

Before Astro Gold you’d have to add in a plethora of relocated charts for all of the locations that someone wanted to consider. Talk about time consuming! But with this latest astrocartography update, we have the coolest feature of Astro Gold (a feature that I think makes downloading it ALL worth it!) – the relocation chart wheel. By dragging my mouse across the map of the world, I can now see the relocation chart shift and move as I scan the map. No more manually having to add each new location in the relocation subsidiary chart feature. This is perhaps the coolest feature with this update and needless to say I’m obsessed! I spend hours of my free time pulling up random people’s charts and studying them in fascination.

The biggest and most important to Astro Gold’s astrocartography feature is the PARAN lines!

Finally. After years of hearing astrologers complain and request that they add paran lines to the mapping software, Astro Gold finally answered our prayers! Now we can visibly see the paran lines at a glance and see the energies at a latitude across the map. Parans are a blend of two planetary lines in a location. They are helpful for fine-tuning your exact latitude and understanding whether it’s best to go more north or south. Now we can easily add them to the map, and even narrow our focus by adding only the parans involving certain planetary energies. For example, if you wanted to find your writing locations in the world, you can add only your Mercury paran lines to the map! If you want to plan a fun, easy breezy vacation, you can make sure to avoid your Saturn parans. Just by adding these special latitude crossings to the map you can know where it’s best to live and travel – depending of course on what you’re looking for!

 

Astrocartography: A Word of Caution

Remember, parans are essential to understanding the stories of place. Too many popular TikTok astrologers and “astrocartographers” teach this online and charge money for readings / classes and aren’t even using them. If you’re not using parans, you’re doing astrocartography wrong. Read this blog post to make you sure you don’t waste your money on a reading with someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing. I can’t tell you the amount of clients I’ve worked with who came to me after having previous readings with astrologers who didn’t use them! Don’t waste your money and make that same mistake.

 

Local Space Option on Astro Gold

Curious about the energies in your local area? Local Space is a helpful branch of locational astrology (not to be confused with astrocartography) and this system is helpful for understanding the directional lines and the stories that come from specific cities and places. I personally prefer the Astro.com local space feature, as I prefer being able to see the exact streets and neighborhoods the lines are going through and they have a Google Maps integration where you’ll able to see the street view, but it’s still help to see it on this software. I teach on this more in depth in my locational astrology course programs.

Aspect Lines (updated!)

Now we have the aspect lines on the astrocartography map – huzzah! This latest Astro Gold update allows you to add the aspects of your choosing, whether it’s the traditional aspects which I use (square, opposition, trine, sextile, conjunction) or other more modern aspects like Quincunx among the 20 others, they are all now available for you to add to the map and see visibly! This is helpful for seeing additional details and get more precise on where you’d like to be.

Cons of Using Astro Gold for Astrocartography

Difficult to Scan the Astro Map

One of the key reasons I don’t love using Astro Gold for astrocartography readings is simply because it’s harder to read and scan the map. While the interface is easier, smoother and more modern (Solar Fire feels outdated at times), it’s difficult to clearly read the clusters of parans and exactly where they are and how far away from certain towns and smaller cities.

Here’s an example of what the parans look like on thr astrocartography maps on Astro Gold software:

Inability to Zoom in and See Smaller Suburbs and Towns

The thing that prevents me from using Astro Gold for my professional client readings is the inability to zoom in and see specific cities, smaller towns and suburbs. On the Astrocartography map on Astro Gold, only large cities are present. Whereas on Solar Fire, I can zoom in closer and closer until I see the tiny town and smaller suburbs. Many of my astrocartography clients enjoy seeing this precision, and so due to this I still use Solar Fire for astrocartography readings.

No Cyclocartography Feature on Astro Gold

If you want to time your travels and see the transits and secondary progressions move across the astrocartography map, then you’re going to want to get Solar Fire for this one. Cyclocartography is the best way to see the overall themes, storylines and timing of a location. While your astrocartography map never changes, think of Cyclocartography as an overlay, a second layer to see WHEN these places have activations timing-wise. With Solar Fire you can easily “animate” the map and see both the transits and secondary progressions move across the map. With Astro Gold, there is no ability to do this.

I personally use both softwares but I prefer using Solar Fire for professional astrocartography readings, as I enjoy seeing the midpoints, Cyclocartography and the smaller towns that I can’t see on Astro Gold. To each their own! The Astro Gold software is definitely smoother and less clunky than Solar Fire, keep in mind!
