New York City Couple’s Photographer, Helena Woods, shares this Fall Central Park Session

I had an absolute ball photographing Maddie and Patrick for a couple’s portrait session in New York City’s Central Park. We started off with some fun, light-hearted portraits at Grand Army Plaza, right across the street from the Plaza Hotel, as with their gorgeous outfits and tasteful style, I thought the buildings and glitz of the Upper East Side and 5th avenue would look beautiful! And these photos did not disappoint! 

From a New York City Couple’s Photographer: the Session

Maddie and Patrick were so easy and fun to photograph. I don’t primarily photograph engagements or couples, and this was my second ever couple’s portrait session (I specialize in family and newborns!) so it goes without saying that I was nervous on getting a variety of different couples poses. But they made my job beyond easy, as their natural chemistry and charm beckoned to be documented by my lens, and we got so many real, candid moments photographed.

We photographed along the East entrance of Central Park, with the Pond and Gapstow Bridge being our fairytale-like setting, as I love to incorporate a mix of urban and natural locations in my New York City photo galleries. I also loved photographing them cuddling up and walking hand in hand, with her stylish tote bag and bundled flowers, along a side street of 5th avenue. Their style and wardrobe choices are beautiful examples of what looks most flattering on camera, and their kindness and openness were so appreciated on one of my very early couples shoots! 

Style Tips for New York City Couples Portrait Sessions

Future studio clients: How often do you get to have a professional portrait session? This is your chance to do it up! Remember: There is no such thing as “too dressed up” when it comes to your portrait session, so don’t be afraid to have some fun!

Have you thought about rocking a romantic gown, tulle skirt or flower crown but just never had an occasion for it? Dresses and skirts look most stunning because they really flatter every female body, especially on camera. Long, full-length, flowy dresses and skirts look amazing on camera because they bring extra movement to the photos. Especially when juxtaposed with nature, like the forest, plains or beach. Consider softer fabrics like chiffon or tulle which allow for beautiful movement in the images.
