My best friend worked as a performer on the Disney Dream, and I had the lucky, lifetime opportunity to go on a FREE cruise! Our stops included Nassau and Castaway Cay.
Paradise? Pretty Much. And not like Nassau, where only some areas are paradise, I’m saying that this entire island is paradise. Tidy, clean, sparkly…you know, very Disney. And the only way you can get to this private island is by taking a Disney Cruise. Once you look out your cabin window and see the clear blue waters, you’ll be racin’ to get on land!
Beaches
Once off the ship, a very Disney-like shuttle will transport you to the many beaches including:
Pelican Point
Scuttle’s Cove
Serenity Bay (adult-only)
Screaming babies and crowds flock to Pelican and Scuttle’s Cove, but if you’re looking for some peace and quiet reflection, head to the silky soft shores of the 18+ beach, Serenity Bay. With white, powdery sand and light blue crystal clear waters, it is indeed a picture out of a travel magazine. With hardly any waves, the water comes onto shore softly and quietly with only the sound of light trickling to help you relax your mind. And was it empty with plenty of available beach chairs!
Yoga + Biking
As we swam and snorkeled (and got excited after spotting a giant red starfish), we found a free yoga class practicing on the beach! So, of course, we joined in. I regularly practice yoga at Yoga to the People in NYC, but this unique experience of practicing on the soft beach with towels as our yoga mats, combined with the only sounds being the soft breeze of the palm trees and chirping tropical birds, it was definitely a special experience. I highly recommend taking a yoga class when you’re out on a quiet beach, if you haven’t tried it yet. A beautiful experience centering your mind, body and spirit while getting close to nature.
Hidden Treasure
With no plan for the day, we grabbed some bikes, thanks to the free bike rental from Lexi’s cast member status, and we trekked out to some bike paths at the end of the island and discovered this treasure…
With very few people exploring this high up look-out point, we climbed up the stairs and saw these green, lush views of the vegetation on the island. Stillness. Absolute stillness. We stared out in awe and took in the warm breeze. With FREE telescopes (yep, that’s right, you don’t have to put in a quarter to see the view!), we observed the plants and flowers before heading out back to the bike trail.
I’m always amazed by how much thought and attention to detail Disney gives to their resorts and products. Like Disneyland, every little detail about the private island is completely on point: whether it’s a statue of Scuttle perched on a wooden ledge or an abandoned pirate ship calling out to the pirate ghosts of the past parked along the waters inviting all those who enter to escape in the magic of Disney, Disney always goes above and beyond my expectations for a vacation.
