Astrocartography is a beautiful tool that shows us where home is.
Your map reveals where in the world you’ll feel a deep sense of belonging, home, comfort, and connection to the land and country. It shows where you naturally want to plant roots, nurture your family, and build long-term foundations.
Personal side note: I felt at home for the first time in my life in France and still feel super cozy living here in Versailles.
Why do I feel more at home in a foreign country?
Because my home lines run through France, not the United States.
The topic of using astrocartography to relocate and find home has always been near and dear to my heart — and now, more than ever, it’s important to have this cosmic tool in your back pocket to be prepared as we move into 2025.
Times are drastically changing. Many people are moving out of their home country to other cities, states, or even relocating internationally. Astrocartography is the most supportive game plan that I predict will massively grow in popularity over the next few years!
So with that said, how do you find home on your astrocartography map?
Well, we can’t talk about finding home in astrocartography without talking about the Moon, the 4th house, and the IC angle.
Astrology Basics: The Moon represents home in your natal chart
Let’s cover the “basics” of Moon energy for my astrology newbies.
The Moon represents our soft, intuitive energy. It’s the opposite of Solar or masculine energy.
Mother Moon embodies our gut feelings, intuition, and what brings us comfort. She wanes and waxes, just like our emotional bodies or the ocean tides. The Moon prompts us to ask ourselves — how do we nurture ourselves?
How do we practice self-care?
How do we feel on an emotional level?
What’s closest to our hearts?
Our Moon lines on our astrocartography maps (symbolized by a crescent moon in dark blue ☽) bring up themes of emotional support, deep desires, settling down, home, needs, mothering, family, fertility, comfort, and being in touch with our internal self.
How your Moon lines feel is dependent on your natal Moon. This is very important to see.
(If you feel inspired, pull up your natal chart and astrocartography map on Astro.com as you follow along and read the remainder of this blog.)
The Moon is generally benefic, supportive, and cozy but, for example, if it’s making a hard square to Mars, that can be very irritable. There can be some sort of anger, emotional outburst, impulse, or reactive energy that can feel out of nowhere or eruptive.
But more often, Moon astrocartography lines feel so safe and secure — it’s truly a place where people feel they belong.
It’s so magical to witness my clients who’ve never quite felt at home in their birth towns or countries, then travel to their Moon IC or Moon AC and finally feel like they found that intangible sensation of being home. You become more aware of your need for safety, containment, and nourishment when you’re on Moon lines.
When I see the Moon in the 4th house — that’s an absolutely beautiful placement. Especially if someone’s considering relocating, buying a home for a growing family, or finding somewhere to build their dream home, etc.
Even if you don’t go to a Moon line, per se, but you have your Moon in the 4th house in your relocated chart, that still feels like a perfect fit, cozy sweater. This placement is an indicator of feeling at home.
Home in Astrocartography: Relocated Charts, IC angle, and the 4th house
When we’re talking about finding home, this requires looking at the 4th house in a relocated chart.
Instead of individually looking at relocated charts in random parts of the world, I recommend pulling up your astrocartography map and pin-pointing your four Moon lines (Moon AC, DC, MC IC). Once you’ve found your four Moon lines, then you can pull up a relocated chart for these specific locations and see what planets relocate to the 4th whole sign house.
In other words, we narrow our search down to Moon lines, then check the 4th house in the relocated chart in those locations.
Why the 4th house?
In traditional astrology, the 4th house is the IC angle, Imum Coeli, which in Latin means the lowest, or private part of your chart. The 4th house represents ancestry, home, family, roots, tradition, and our private lives. It’s the most important placement to see what stories are present in a relocated chart when you’re looking for comfort and home.
Moon on the IC angle, or Moon IC line, is by far the ULTIMATE home line in astrocartography — it’s the creme de la creme because the Moon literally represents home in astrology. So getting the Moon (home) to relocate to the 4th house (home) is incredible. This placement makes people feel very settled where they live, emotionally connected to the land or their country, safe, intuitive, and rooted.
Venus in the 4th whole sign house brings a sense of harmony, beauty, and appreciation of home, local culture, and family life. This location is all about enjoyment and pleasure but can get a little too indulgent at times as well. Venus relocated to the 4th house is ideal for creatives, designers, homemakers, gardeners, and foodies who want a home that’s infused with pleasure.
Sun in the 4th relocated house, especially when it’s on the IC angle, brings a sense of expression, energy, life force, and creativity larger than life energy. There’s a lot of spirit gifted by the Sun, so the Sun in the 4th house is expressiveness towards the home, creative family time, and children. It’s great for retirement, too.
This placement is great for making your home a place where you can express your heart and your spirit through interior design, be a part of the community, and local neighborhood, and step into leadership.
Jupiter relocated to the 4th house will be represented on your astrocartography map by the Jupiter IC line.
I was recently on my Jupiter IC line in Japan and it felt profoundly spiritual and religious — I appreciated the land, learning about Japanese culture, and connecting with the mountains. Very Jupiter in the 4th house energy.
If you want to buy property or make investments in a house, or real estate, Jupiter IC lines can be very good for that because Jupiter brings wealth expansion.
But again – it depends on YOUR natal Jupiter in your chart, along with your parans, local space, relocation chart, etc. There’s so much to astrocartography and locational astrology than just “go to a Jupiter line!”
Saturn in the 4th house is BIG on settling down and not leaving. I’ve seen so many clients where they live in places with Saturn in the 4th relocated house, or Saturn on the IC, and it’s like you cannot get them to move. They’re deeply rooted and have zero interest in moving.
Grounded. Settled. In it for the long haul.
So let’s say, you’ve looked around the world and all of your IC lines are in the ocean or in a country that you probably won’t move to. Or you don’t have any planets in the 4th house. No need to fear — there are other indicators on your astrocartography map that show supportive locations to call home.
This blog is a magical place to start if you’re looking to relocate or find the home of your dreams. But I recommend going deeper into your astrocartography map and relocated charts before making a big decision to uproot and move.
How would one do that?
